Tip for Globalyzer

Detection Rules

Globalyzer provides tremendous efficiencies in reviewing existing source
code for i18n (internationalization) issues, but i18n usually has quite a bit of nuance to it. That's why we put a great deal of creative intelligence into making server-based controls flexible, including the ability to add rules-based detection and filtering controls. In this tip, we discuss setting up detection capabilities within a Globalyzer rule set. That is, pinpointing what you want to look for in your code.

Lingoport World Ready Newsletter

Happy Holidays!

I love going to LocalizationWorld, most recently in Seattle last month. It's my chance to catch up with industry friends and associates - reminding me of how great this industry is, with so many uniquely global perspectives.

The Lingoport team took time at Localization World to provide a joint presentation with several industry partners and clients, discussing internationalization and localization practices. There we also debuted an alpha version of our new Globalyzer Diagnostics tool, along with the initial numbers from some industry research we recently collected.

Globalyzer Diagnostics is refreshingly new and exciting in its potential for the industry. Point it at your source code and it combs through it, to give you total counts of internationalization issues buried within, along with recommended next steps. And the price is right - free.

Upon first look at the raw numbers from our internationalization and localization survey, I didn't know what to make of things. But as we dug deeper, i18n information and capacity gaps revealed themselves. We've written a whitepaper about it. I urge you to give it a read to find out what's going on in this increasingly critical area.

But wait..there's more..

With this issue, Lingoport initiates several ongoing features (located on the left column) designed to highlight important aspects of internationalization:

We hope you enjoy these new features, this month and in the months ahead. Also, check out our section on our online resources.

Industry Survey Results

Localization and Internationalization Survey:

l10n/i18n Survey finds gaps in internationalization capacity, knowledge

Lingoport, in conjunction with Multilingual Computing magazine, recently announced the results of an industry survey to gauge internationalizationSurvey understanding and attitudes within l10n service providers and their clients.

The study showed significant perception and capacity gaps in the discipline, with important implications for localization project success and timelines. The bottom line: current industry capacity to handle current i18n needs is lacking, as LSPs and their clients disagree about the depth and severity of the problem.

Workshops and Webinars: Internationalization and Localization

LocalizationWorld i18n workshop explores the challenges and benefits of preparing source code for global deployment

A packed house in Seattle heard a panel of industry luminaries discuss internationalization as it relates to localization project completion. Representatives from Lingoport, ENLASO, CommonSense Advisory, Cisco, and others presented in-depth background information and case studies from the front lines of i18n. We hope you got a chance to attend, and if not, you might enjoy listening to this webinar recording (co-sponsored by Lingoport and Enlaso) that covered some of the same material.
